Process and Timeline
1
Consultation & Document Preparation Sponsor
Verify legal marital status and determine the type of visa (VITAS Spouse) according to Indonesian Immigration rules. Complete documents of marriage certificate, sponsorship letter from Indonesian spouse, passport with a minimum validity of 18 months and proof of residence address. Estimated time: 1-2 working days.
2
Spouse VITAS application to the Indonesian Embassy/KJRI or Online Portal
Documents are submitted through the e-visa system or to the representative office if submitted from abroad. Furthermore, the Indonesian Embassy / Consulate verifies with an estimated time: 7-10 working days.
3
Visa Collection & Conversion to Dependent KITAS
After approval, the visa can be taken physically or in the form of an e-visa. When arriving in Indonesia, do biometrics and apply for a dependent KITAS at the local Immigration office. Estimated time: 14-21 working days.
*The total estimated time to obtain a spouse visa is about 4-6 weeks, depending on document completeness.
Important Consideration
- This visa does not automatically authorize work. To work legally, foreigners need to apply for an additional work permit.
- Marital status must be legally valid and recorded at the Population and Civil Registry Office.
- The spouse’s KITAS can be upgraded to KITAP after the marriage has lasted at least 2 years.
- Marriage certificates issued outside of the country require legalization and translation before submission.
